    Problem Adding Database in v2?

I have 2 Windows 2003 servers on my network, both on the same domain. They are called James and Jeeves. Both have SQL Server 2005 installed (I'm currently pensioning off Jeeves and transferring stuff across).

A few weeks ago I created a SQLDbControl project and added James plus a couple of databases. That worked fine.

This morning I figured I needed to add Jeeves to the project as a new server, so that I could transfer databases across. Adding Jeeves as a server worked no problem, it instantly appeared where it should in the project tree.

I then opened up the Jeeves branch, right-clicked on its Databases branch, and selected Add New Database.

Up came the Add Database dialog, which was showing me James as the server in the left pane, and on the right the databases which are on Jeeves.

I had to dive into SQL Server Management Studio to figure out what was going on. The correct databases are being shown in the Add Databases dialog, but the server name is wrong.

The main Summary pane underneath the dialog clearly shows Jeeves as the connection I was working on.

Looks to me as though the Add Databases dialog isn't properly updating the server name in the left pane. I think this could potentially be a serious issue in a production area because a user might think they are working on the wrong server - if both servers had the same database names there could be potential for them updating the wrong one.

    Andrew,

The left-hand-side panel on the Add Database dialog contains detail on the source control database that you are currently connected to, rather than the server from which you are adding databases.  The server name from which you are adding databases is listed just above the database list.

I can see where the confusion arises so I'll see if we can modify this dialog to better reflect the server you're adding databases from.

Re: Problem Adding Database in v2?

Thanks for that.I spent about 20 minutes checking this out the other day. Both servers had the same databases on them and I had to create an extra database on one of them using Management Studio to see which I was connected to.

However I just spotted the server name in the label above the database list - sorry I didn't see that before posting earlier. Perhaps all that needs to be improved is to highlight that label in bold and/or larger text?
